Start with a lump of clay—

Slap it down. Feel the weight meet the earth.

Cut it open. Use a wire or a blade to slice it clean down the middle.
This reveals any hidden air pockets and lets you see the clay’s inner consistency.

Knead—fold the clay over itself, press it down, and rotate. Repeat this motion steadily. The aim is to create a smooth, even texture and remove trapped air.

 Wedging is how we ask the clay to align, to become whole.

Pay attention as you go. Keep going until the texture is even, smooth, and alive in your hands.
Good clay feels uniform—soft but firm, without lumps or bubbles.
If something feels off, keep kneading.
